Will AI Ask For Money In Near Future?

If you are someone who relies too much on AI tools like ChatGPT for generating desired results, then this concerns you. It is highly possible that soon AI companies will start asking for money from users for every query made. As companies rush towards perfecting their AI models, they are about to face a legal challenge. An open letter has been sent to the CEOs of OpenAI, Meta, Google, Stability AI, IBM, and Microsoft, signed by around 8000 authors, accusing the companies of profiting from their work.

Copyrighted works, including books, articles, and research papers, serve as the raw material for AI, and it repeatedly feeds off the content to generate results. The letter posted by Author’s Guild demands compensation each time the generative AI uses any copyrighted work, which features in the result. The letter also demands that companies should seek proper permission through the right channels before accessing any work. It has been signed by prominent writers like Margaret Atwood, Dan Brown, Michael Choban, etc.

The direct result of this could be that users might not be able to access the services of these tools for free or at minimal charge. To compensate the authors, the companies would have to charge users each time the request involves a copyrighted work. This could have a serious impact on the current business model the AI companies propose, and asking AI to do your assignments might become a costly affair.
