50 Lakh Seats on Sale: Big Relief to Air India Passengers?

India’s summer travel season is becoming increasingly competitive as Air India Express launches one of its largest promotional campaigns of the year. The airline has announced its “Express Sale”, offering nearly 50 lakh seats across its domestic and international network at discounted fares.

Under the limited-period offer, travellers can avail discounts of up to 50% on select fare categories. The move comes at a time when demand for air travel is expected to rise significantly during the holiday and festive travel season.

The sale began on May 27 and will remain available until May 31, 2026. Passengers can book tickets for travel between June 15 and October 10, 2026, covering school holidays, long weekends and a major part of the festive season.

One of the key highlights of the campaign is the availability of discounted Lite and Value fares. Lite fares are aimed at passengers travelling without check-in baggage, making them suitable for short trips and budget-conscious travellers.

Value fares provide additional benefits and greater flexibility depending on the selected route and travel category. These options are designed to appeal to a wider range of passengers looking for affordability as well as convenience.

Air India Express initially offered early access to the sale through its official website and mobile application on May 27. From May 28 onwards, the offers were also made available through major travel booking platforms.

The airline is encouraging customers to book directly through its own channels by waiving convenience fees on bookings made via its website and mobile app during the sale period. This could result in additional savings for passengers.

The timing of the campaign is notable as the Indian aviation sector enters one of its busiest travel periods. Rising aviation turbine fuel prices and concerns over possible capacity adjustments by airlines have also created uncertainty regarding future airfare trends.

For travellers planning holidays or festive season trips, the current sale could present an opportunity to secure lower fares before demand increases and ticket prices move higher in the coming months.
