India Air Travel Market’s New Game Changer in 2025

India’s aviation industry is preparing to welcome a new player, with Kerala-based Alhind Air set to begin operations by late 2025. Backed by the Alhind Group, a well-established travel and tourism company with over 130 offices worldwide, the airline plans to boost regional air travel while gradually stepping into bigger markets.

Approvals and Base of Operations

Alhind Air has already received its No Objection Certificate and Air Operator Certificate from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. With these approvals in place, the airline is in the final stages before commencing services. Its base will be at Kochi International Airport, starting with a fleet of two to three ATR 72 turboprops, ideal for short-haul routes in southern India, especially Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities with limited infrastructure.

Initial Routes and Expansion Plans

The airline’s initial network will connect Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Bengaluru, and Chennai. One of the first scheduled routes will run Kochi–Bengaluru–Hubballi and return. Within the first year, the fleet is expected to grow to seven ATR aircraft, with future plans for over 20 planes including Airbus A319 or A320 jets. International services could follow within two years, focusing on Kerala’s large expatriate community.

Competitive Landscape

Alhind Air will face strong competition from established carriers like IndiGo and Air India Express, which currently dominate the regional sector. However, by targeting underserved routes and offering frequent services, the new airline could carve out a niche. Its experienced leadership and existing sales network are additional advantages that may help it win customer loyalty.

Potential Impact on Indian Aviation

If the airline’s strategy is successfully executed, Alhind Air could play a key role in enhancing India’s regional aviation sector. Passengers may benefit from increased travel options and competitive fares, strengthening overall connectivity across the country.
