A traveller faced major trouble after American Airlines cancelled their confirmed Chennai to New York ticket nearly two months after purchase. The sudden cancellation also pushed alternative fares up by about $800.
Cancellation After Two Months
The passenger had booked the one way ticket on September 16, 2025 through Travelmerry. They received quick confirmation from both Qatar Airways and American Airlines. Things changed on November 13, 2025 when American Airlines notified them that the booking had been cancelled due to a duplicate ticket.
Blame Between Airline and Agency
The passenger contacted the concerned authorities. Travelmerry blamed American Airlines and called it a technical issue. American Airlines stated that the fare issued by the agency was invalid and was cancelled during a later booking review.
Rising Fares and Delayed Action
The delay in cancellation proved to be the biggest setback. Fares that were around $1,150 at the time of booking had climbed to nearly $2,000 by mid-November. The passenger also claimed that Travelmerry paid American Airlines only $671 and kept the rest as markup.
Questions on Booking Systems
The traveller criticised the airline authorities for allowing questionable agencies to operate within their systems. According to them, customer support did not take responsibility. The incident highlights the risks of third-party bookings and raises concerns about fare validation timelines.
