Global logistics major FedEx has announced an investment of over ₹2,500 crore to set up a fully automated air cargo hub at the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. The project marks a major push toward strengthening India’s logistics infrastructure.
The facility will be developed in collaboration with Adani Airport Holdings. It is expected to cover nearly 3 lakh square feet. Reports suggest the construction and setup will be completed within the next two years.
The air cargo hub will function as a regional consolidation and redistribution centre. It will connect India with Southeast Asia, West Asia, Europe, and the United States. This network aims to improve efficiency across international trade routes.
FedEx CEO Raj Subramanian stated that the hub will integrate FedEx’s global network with India’s expanding trade corridors. The move reflects confidence in India’s growing role in global logistics and supply chains.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the cargo hub would complement passenger operations at the airport. He noted that it would strengthen Maharashtra’s position as a key logistics gateway in the region.
Jeet Adani added that the project aligns with the airport’s long-term vision. The focus is on creating integrated infrastructure that boosts trade competitiveness and operational efficiency.
The hub is expected to generate more than 6,000 direct and indirect jobs. In later phases, it is projected to handle up to 3.2 million tonnes of cargo annually, supporting large-scale operations.
Advanced automated sorting and high-speed screening systems will be installed. These will support sectors such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, and perishables. If executed well, the project could significantly enhance India’s global supply chain presence.
