Conversations about the inappropriate behaviour of Indian men during flights are becoming increasingly common across online platforms, and not in a good way.
From Reddit forums to comment sections, stories are pouring in from airline staff, especially female cabin crew, recounting the same disturbing patterns: unsolicited staring, secret photography, inappropriate comments, and deliberate attempts to make physical contact under the guise of accidents.
Many of these stories come from flight attendants and even pilots working for international carriers, who point out a consistent trend that is tarnishing the image of Indian passengers globally.
Several crew members have admitted to dreading routes involving Indian sectors because of this issue. One flight attendant shared that they often overhear colleagues expressing anxiety before flights to destinations like Thailand from India, due to the behaviour they expect from middle-aged male passengers.
The disrespect does not stop at subtle harassment. Incidents of male passengers shouting at and belittling female staff, calling them servants or even encouraging others to physically attack crew members over delays, are disturbingly common.
In some parts of the aviation industry, particularly in India and the Middle East, crew are left unsupported by their airlines and caught in a one-sided “customer is god” culture that forces them to tolerate abuse in silence.
Such viral conversations are creating a damaging global impression of Indian men. While these actions may be carried out by a segment, the frequency is enough to cause concern.
It is time Indian men reflect on how they behave in public, especially towards women in service roles, and recognise the long-term consequences of their entitled and disrespectful conduct.
