KLM First-Class Nightmare: $20K and No Service

A recent Reddit post has highlighted serious concerns about KLM’s first-class service. A passenger who spent over $20,000 on tickets between the United States and Europe described the airline as offering one of the least empathetic experiences despite the premium price.

Seat Selection Issues

The ordeal began when KLM mishandled seat assignments transferred from Delta. Instead of resolving the problem, staff blamed the travellers for not verifying the transfer. The passenger called this expectation unreasonable and dismissive, especially for first-class customers.

Baggage Trouble

Things worsened when the couple’s checked bag was slightly overweight. Instead of offering a paid solution, staff forced them to discard gifts meant for family and friends. They were even denied the use of airline trash bins, leaving the passenger’s girlfriend in tears.

Past Problems with KLM

The Reddit post mentioned another incident during a KLM trip to Italy where their bags were lost for days. The repeated issues reinforced the view that KLM’s customer service culture lacks empathy and consistency, especially compared with other premium carriers.

Strong Criticism from Passenger

The passenger, who identified as the head of a billion-dollar US company, expressed shock at the airline’s disregard for customers. They vowed not to fly KLM again and criticised its leadership for failing to fix ongoing service problems.
