How long can you wait for your delayed flight to begin? 1 hour maximum? No? A recent Spicejet flight from Mumbai to Bangalore was delayed by almost 3 hours, leaving passengers stranded.
It so happened that the flight was initially scheduled to depart at 10.30 pm and reach the destination in two hours.
However, passengers received notification a few hours before boarding that the time had been changed to 11.30 pm.
Fair enough, and nobody might have any problem with it, given that it was only an hour.
But things took a nasty turn because the flight was delayed again. Every time the passengers approached the staff, they kept saying the same thing, ‘it’s arriving in some time.’
Then, they received another time, 12.30 am, which left people heaving a sigh of relief. But that happiness was short-lived when it was delayed again.
This time, the reason was maintenance and, in professional terms, operational issues. The passengers didn’t take it well this time and sought answers from the staff.
Slogans were raised against Spicejet at the Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport (T1) where this facade happened.
Some of them even demanded a refund with compensation for all the time lost in waiting for the flight.
Unfortunately, no resolution was reached for a long time, nor were the passengers provided with any refreshments due to the delay.
In the end, the boarding happened at 2 am and the flight was scheduled to depart at 2.30 am.
However, after a lot of other activities, including refuelling, the flight took off at 2.45 am.
This incident highlights the rising cases of delays from major airlines. What isn’t clear here is the reason behind these issues and the airline staff do not seem to answer them on time.
