Teen’s Horrific Swiss Flight: Indian Man Convicted

A 44-year-old businessman of Indian origin has been convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl aboard Swiss International Air Lines (LX). The incident occurred during flight LX155 from Mumbai (BOM) to Zurich (ZRH) in March 2024.

The man was arrested immediately after landing in Zurich. A Swiss court sentenced him to an 18-month suspended prison term and barred him from entering Switzerland for the next five years.

Details of the Assault

According to the Zurich Public Prosecutor’s Office, the victim was seated next to the accused, who was travelling to Belgium via Zurich for business meetings. After a brief conversation, the girl went to sleep. Prosecutors alleged that the man then engaged in inappropriate contact, including touching intimate areas, digital penetration, and forcing her to touch him. The victim, in shock, could not resist or raise an alarm.

Cabin Crew Response

The teenager eventually informed the cabin crew, who promptly moved her to another seat and closely monitored the suspect. Upon arrival, Zurich police took the man into custody.

Debate on Sentencing and Safety

The ruling has sparked debate, with many claiming the punishment does not reflect the severity of the crime. Experts also highlight the rising trend of sexual assaults on flights and call for stricter aviation safety regulations.
