Recently, there have been tragic incidents involving Indian students studying abroad, including a drowning incident in Australia. Two young men from Andhra Pradesh lost their lives while swimming at Millaa Millaa Falls near Cairns in Queensland.
Chaitanya Mupparaju from the Bapatla district and Surya Teja Bobba from Prakasam district, both in their twenties, were pursuing higher studies in Australia. The incident unfolded when one of them appeared to struggle in the water.
According to Inspector Jason Smith, the two friends went into the water from the shore. One had trouble swimming, and the other tried to help. Sadly, both lost their lives in the attempt.
A third friend who was present witnessed the tragic events unfold but was unable to provide direct assistance. However, he stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities during the rescue efforts.
Despite extensive search efforts involving Queensland Police, including helicopters and ambulance teams, the students could not be immediately located.
Millaa Millaa Falls, a popular tourist spot known for its serene swimming conditions, was temporarily closed during the search and has since reopened. This incident has deeply saddened the local community, as such accidents are rare in this typically safe area.
