$25M Fine: Favored Immigrants Over U.S. Citizens

The United States immigration system, especially the rules for work visas concerning foreign workers and their hiring employers, is highly complex.

There are numerous loopholes that both candidates and employers exploit when hiring immigrants over U.S. citizens.

Apple will pay $25 million to settle claims by the U.S. Department of Justice, alleging that the company illegally gave preference to immigrant workers over U.S. citizens and green card holders for certain jobs.

The government agency stated that Apple favored immigrants when U.S. citizens and green card holders were available.

This settlement is the largest ever for the Justice Department involving claims of discrimination based on citizenship.

In response, Apple stated that it had “unintentionally not been following the DOJ standard.”
