$4 Ticket Record: Breaking Last Year’s?

On the second annual National Cinema Day, over 3,000 participating theaters in the US offer movie tickets for just $4, a price not seen since 1989.

This initiative, led by the Cinema Foundation, aims to revitalize the post-pandemic movie theater industry. Last year’s Cinema Day drew 8 million participants, generating $23.8 million in box office revenue.

This year, more than 4 million advance tickets were sold for films like “Barbie” and “Blue Beetle.” The top five movies attracting audiences are “Blue Beetle,” “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” and “Strays,” which have sold around $2 Million plus tickets.

The event aids theater chains like AMC, which faced challenges during the pandemic and ongoing strikes by Hollywood actors and writers.

Despite mixed reviews, Sunday’s reduced ticket prices are boosting Tollywood’s new releases like “Gandeevadhari Arjuna” and “Bedurulanka 2012.” Moviegoers who usually avoid watching movies with such mixed talk are also giving these films a chance because of the offer.

It will be interesting to see if last year’s record of $8 Million tickets sold will broken or not. At the pace things are going, it might just cross it.
