8 PM Deadline Drama, Trump Pulls Back on Iran

With just hours left for his 8 PM EST deadline, Donald Trump had warned of massive strikes on Iran. He had even said the country could be hit in a single night if no deal was reached.

From Washington to the Middle East, and across global markets, everyone was watching closely, unsure if the situation would explode into a full scale war.

But at the last moment, there is a pause.

Trump has now said the US will hold off on bombing Iran for two weeks. This came after talks with Pakistan’s leadership, who pushed for more time for diplomacy.

The pause comes with a condition. Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz immediately and ensure safe passage. This route carries a major share of the world’s oil, so the stakes are huge.

Iran has reportedly agreed to the two week ceasefire plan. Both sides now have a small window to try and finalize a deal.

For now, the immediate danger has stepped back. But the next two weeks will decide everything.
