B-1/B-2 Update: Hyderabad Wait Time Crosses 12 Months

The US State Department released their updated global visa wait times earlier this month. The new data shows a disappointing situation for India.

B-1/B-2 visitor visas, the major visa type issued across the world, now has much longer wait times. Indian wait times range from 6 months to over a year, depending on the city.

Hyderabad is hit the hardest, with 12 months of wait for a visa appointment. This makes getting tourist visas much more difficult for applicants in the city.

Mumbai and New Delhi also have similarly long wait times. This means that applicants cannot choose a different city for faster appointment times.

Kolkata and Chennai have the shortest wait times in India. But even then, applicants have to wait at least 6 months before getting an interview slot.

Other visa types like F-1, J-1, and H-1B show shorter wait times. Kolkata applicants have to wait only a month for an interview slot.

However, the State Department has noted that these numbers are only a rough average. Waiting for 12 months is no guarantee for an appointment.

Applicants are advised to check for new slots regularly, as embassies release them frequently.
