2 Years, No Update: B1/B2 Renewal Hits a Wall

A Mumbai family’s simple B1/B2 visa renewal has turned into a two-year ordeal. What should have been a routine process has instead left them stuck in uncertainty.

From Dropbox to Administrative Processing

The case began in June 2023 with a Dropbox submission followed by an in-person interview. Despite the father already holding two 10-year visas in the past, the officer placed the family’s applications under 221g Administrative Processing (AP) with no clear timeline.

26 Months of “Refused” Status

For over two years, the family repeatedly saw their case marked as “Refused” on the portal. In August 2025, there was a brief moment of hope when the consulate asked for their passports, holding them for 21 days before shifting the status to AP. However, soon after, the status reverted to “Refused.”

Re-Interview Adds to Confusion

Recently, the father and his 13-year-old son were summoned for a re-interview. Shockingly, the wife who applied alongside them received no such notice, leaving her case in complete limbo.

A Broken Renewal Process?

Normally, visa renewals are quicker than fresh applications, especially for applicants with prior visas and short, compliant trips. Instead, this family has been stuck for 26 months, with no clear communication or resolution from the consulate.
