Canada Rejects Foreign Students for Strange Reason

In recent times, India has witnessed a massive surge in students crossing the seas for educational purposes, with the USA and Canada being their favorite destinations for a long time. However, the prospects for students venturing to Canada may face a significant setback.

Canada’s geography isn’t the most accommodating when it comes to housing and living conditions. In recent years, the country has experienced a housing crisis, leading to a substantial increase in the cost of living. Consequently, the Canadian government is contemplating the possibility of imposing a cap on foreign student visas.

Currently, Canada hosts approximately 800,000 students as of 2022 and is expected to see a further increase due to its growing global reputation. This could exacerbate the existing housing problem in the country. Even the former immigration minister, now the housing minister, has shed light on this issue.

While such a cap might provide a temporary solution to the housing problem, foreign students also contribute significantly to the financial aspect of universities. They enroll in expensive courses and pay more for accommodation. If a cap is implemented, it could negatively impact local universities as well.

In terms of the student population, Indian and Chinese students make up the majority. After completing their studies, a substantial number of them choose to settle in Canada and make substantial contributions to various sectors. In simple terms, this short-term decision might have long-lasting consequences for the country’s future.
