ChatGPT’s Over $15M Deal With Indian Entrepreneur

Dharmesh Shah, Indian-origin founder and CTO of Hubspot, has struck a massive deal with the parent company of the AI software ChatGPT.

OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman recently posted a Chat.com URL on X, which redirects users straight to ChatGPT. This domain was previously owned by Shah, who bought it for $15 million in 2023.

The Indian-American entrepreneur was aware of the boom in AI chatbots and saw it as the “future of tech.” This is why he invested in this domain as a prime real estate for chat interfaces.

As evident, it paid him off big time as he resold the domain just after a few months and confirmed OpenAI as the buyer. Although he didn’t disclose the final price he suggested that it was definitely a profitable deal.

Shah also hinted at receiving shares instead of full cash, which is a smart move considering Open AI’s rapid growth. With this multi-million dollar investment, the future tech company is on the path to dominate the conversational AI space.

This simple domain will give ChatGPT a place in everyday tech. Let’s see how this strategic move pays out in the long run.
