In many instances, they receive no advance notice from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Cases once set aside for humanitarian or legal reasons — like injury-based U-Visas or pending green card interviews — are now being fast-tracked for deportation with little consideration or communication.

Due Process Under Threat

Perhaps the most alarming aspect is the erosion of due process. Lawyers are being forced to respond in as little as ten days, even when clients are unreachable or unaware that their cases have been reactivated. In such a rushed and high-pressure environment, errors are inevitable.

The Need for Humanity in Law
