Trump Govt Dragging Dead Immigrants to Courts?

In any legal system, fairness is about more than just laws. It is also about timing, context, and respect for human lives. When people have spent years building stable futures believing their immigration cases were resolved, reopening those cases without a clear reason feels not only unsettling but deeply unjust.

Families and Communities Affected

Many of these immigrants have spent over a decade raising children, completing their education, and contributing to society. They have done so with legal documentation such as DACA permits, temporary visas, or pending green cards. Yet under the Trump administration’s intensified immigration enforcement, thousands of long-dormant cases are being reopened — sometimes even for individuals who have passed away.

Overwhelmed Courts and Lawyers

Motions to reopen are flooding immigration courts at such a pace that attorneys are struggling to keep up. In many instances, they receive no advance notice from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Cases once set aside for humanitarian or legal reasons — like injury-based U-Visas or pending green card interviews — are now being fast-tracked for deportation with little consideration or communication.

Due Process Under Threat

Perhaps the most alarming aspect is the erosion of due process. Lawyers are being forced to respond in as little as ten days, even when clients are unreachable or unaware that their cases have been reactivated. In such a rushed and high-pressure environment, errors are inevitable.

The Need for Humanity in Law

Immigration law should uphold order, but it must also uphold humanity. The current wave of mass recalendaring suggests that compassion is being sidelined — a worrying sign for thousands of immigrants whose lives hang in the balance.
