Alarming USCIS Data: EB-1, EB-2 Visas in Decline

Recent USCIS visa approval numbers reveal a sharp decline. The Q3 2025 report shows that EB-2 NIW and EB-1A approval rates have fallen noticeably.

The EB-2 NIW approval rate dropped by 19.8% from Q2, falling to 54%. EB-1A approvals also decreased to 66%, down from 72.7%. These figures have raised concern among applicants and immigration experts.

Administration Tightens Definition of “National Interest”

Experts believe this decline reflects a unified government effort. The administration appears to be tightening the definition of “national interest” and applying stricter scrutiny to applications.

O-1 Visa Approvals Remain Strong

In contrast, O-1 visa approvals remain high and stable at 94%. This consistency makes O-1 visas the most reliable option for individuals seeking to work in the US.

Applicants Express Growing Anxiety

The steep fall in EB-1A and EB-2 approvals has left many applicants anxious. Several expressed worry that genuine cases are now facing delays and rejections.

Rising Concerns Over Speculative Filings

Many believe that the EB-2 NIW category has been diluted by speculative filings. Meanwhile, the O-1 visa is seen as suitable only for those with notable accomplishments, leaving others with limited options.

A Tough Phase for Immigrants

The new data paints a challenging picture for skilled workers. With tighter rules and lower approval rates, your immigration journey may now require stronger evidence and a more strategic approach.
