Elon Musk and his X haven’t had the best of relationships with the governments around the world but he has managed to operate the brand with or without friction in most of the democratic countries around the world. X seems to have hit a roadblock it cannot move across as the social media platform faces a complete ban in Brazil.
Brazil has imposed a ban on X, asking internet service providers to block the platform on their networks. Elon Musk has allegedly failed to comply with court orders which asked the platform to ban a few accounts in the country.
This has not only led to a ban on X but has also impacted Musk’s other business, Starlink. The finances of Starlink have been frozen by authorities in order to collect fines levied by the court.
Elon Musk has claimed that X is a platform that promotes free speech and would not bend under pressure from governments. However, we have seen that in countries like India, X has complied with numerous such requests to deactivate accounts of individuals and groups.
Brazil is trying to ensure that the ban stay effective and that’s why it is also imposing a heavy fine on use of the platform using a VPN.
