F-1 Visa Holders Panic Over Sudden “No Status” Update
An F-1 student was left in panic after seeing their visa status on the CEAC (Consular Electronic Application Center) portal change from “Issued” to “No Status”—despite their visa having been approved back in 2021. The incident reflects growing anxiety among international students navigating conflicting updates on visa tracking platforms.
Many students, including long-term PhD candidates, have reported similar experiences. Even with valid visas and active SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) records, the CEAC portal suddenly displays an alarming “No Status” message.
CEAC “No Status” Is Not Always a Red Flag
Fortunately, this issue may not be as serious as it appears. The CEAC portal is designed to track visa processing while it’s active at a U.S. embassy or consulate. Once a visa is issued and the case is closed, older records are often purged or hidden, causing the system to show “No Status.”
What truly matters is your SEVIS status and the visa stamp on your passport. If SEVIS is active and you haven’t received any termination notice, your legal standing remains intact.
However, the absence of clear communication from U.S. immigration channels continues to fuel anxiety. In an era of heightened scrutiny and policy shifts, many international students are left refreshing visa portals daily—unsure whether they’re safe or at risk.
