Google Fires Indian-Born Director After 13 Yrs

It has become quite routine to see news about Indian-born individuals taking up higher roles in the tech sector. Numerous WhatsApp forwards showcase images of Indian-origin tech CEOs like Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai, etc.

However, breaking the pattern, we have an update: Indian-born Madhav Chinnappa, director of Google News, shared his layoff with his followers on LinkedIn.

Strangely, Google let him go after he had served the company for a remarkable 13 years. Despite this, Chinnappa expressed pride in his accomplishments during his tenure at Google.

Madhav Chinnappa mentioned that he is planning to return to India.

Despite Chinnappa’s departure, the department he led, ‘Google News,’ remains the most useful and popular addition to the Google search engine. It is quite surprising for Google to let go of such talent in the name of cost-cutting.
