One man’s green card dream collapsed not because of fraud but because an immigration officer believed his divorce papers from back home were fake. His ordeal highlights how complex and frustrating the process can become.
Dispute Over Divorce Papers
The man claimed he had gone through a proper divorce in his home country, with court orders and certified papers. However, when he applied for a green card through marriage, USCIS declared the decree invalid and later even labelled it fake.
Endless Red Tape
He appealed with fresh certified copies from the foreign court but was still denied. Finally, in desperation, he even obtained a US divorce just to meet the immigration requirements. Despite this, his troubles only grew during the next stage.
Interview Turns Hostile
At his second interview, the officer allegedly kept pressing him about the so-called fake divorce papers, ignoring his sworn statement and official documents. The applicant described the entire experience as horrible, with the officer acting mean and prejudiced.
Fear of Fraud Label
The biggest concern is the word fraud. Once that term is linked to a case, it goes beyond paperwork. It can destroy immigration chances unless fought with a lawyer, possibly through a fraud waiver.
Legal Help is Vital
In such cases, seeking advice from legal experts and experienced immigration lawyers is crucial. Strict officers can become major obstacles, and professional support is often the only way forward in a green card journey.
