The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) have announced a significant update for Green Card holders. Indian immigrants can finally have a sigh of relief as the validity period of their Green Card is extended to a maximum of 36 months.
This has happened due to an increased demand for employment and study-based visas where a significant number of Indians have to wait long periods of time, sometimes up to years. The extended validity gives comfort to working professionals as they keep their status without having to worry when they wait for their Card renewal.
This also gives ease to traveling Indians who often come home for festivals and occasions. Having a longer validity alleviates any worries of being stranded on their return to the US.
Although the Geen Card extension is a positive development, application processing time is still a big problem for Indian immigrants. A recent report suggested that only 3% of the 34.7 million Green Card applicants will be accepted this year, meaning that over a million Indian applications might get rejected.
Nonetheless, in a tumultuous climate like this, where the West is slowly raising its walls to immigrants, this news acts as a beacon of hope for Indians.
