Getting a Green Card should be exciting news for any immigrant. However, an H-1B holder wasn’t met with mixed emotions when he got his permit for US Residency.
Taking to social media, an immigrant worker shared how his Green Card was approved when he was in the middle of planning a vacation with his wife. This meant that his H-1B was no longer valid, which in turn would make his wife’s H4 visa invalid as well.
Fearing his wife would have no way to re-enter the US once they left, the new US resident had to cancel his vacation.
When he enquired about why he wasn’t given an update earlier, his lawyers told him, “It’s just how USCIS works. USCIS chat agent just copy pasted a paragraph on how to check processing times online and left the chat.”
Nonetheless, this was not received well by other netizens who called him ungrateful for getting his Green Card in such an uncertain political climate for immigrants.
Thinking about it, it could have been even worse if the couple had gone on the trip and they got the “good news” there. However, he gave an update, writing, “As long as her 485 is not outright denied, her H4 should still work.”
Many Indian couples face similar visa complications where one application gets approved before the other. While it is a moment to rejoice for one, their partner is living in fear as their entry to the US has suddenly become invalid.
In these tough times though, immigrant families should count their blessings where they can.
