H1B Approved but Stuck in India With No Job

Getting an H1B approval feels like winning the lottery. But what if you’re still in India. Waiting for a project while your U.S. dream is on hold? This is the reality for many, and uncertainty can be quite frustrating.

The biggest challenge is finding a job in the U.S. while being thousands of miles away. Most companies prefer candidates who are already in the country. Even with a stamped visa, securing a new employer willing to do a transfer can be tricky.
So, what are your options? You could wait for your current employer to assign yout to a project, but that might take months—or may never happen. The alternative is to actively search for an H1B transfer, though that comes with its own set of challenges.

Networking is crucial. U.S. companies rarely hire from abroad unless there’s a strong referral. Connecting with professionals on LinkedIn, joining H1B job groups, and reaching out to recruiters who specizlize in visa transfers can make a difference.

Another hurdle is demonstrating your value from a distance. Employers prefer candidates who can start right away. A strong LinkedIn profile, a solid portfolio, or even remote work experience with a U.S. company can enhance your chances.

Waiting and hoping isn’t a strategy. If your employer is having difficulty finding you a project,it’s worth considering other opportunities. The goal isnt just to secure an H1B–it’s to build a career in the U.S., and sometimes, that means taking charge of your situation.
