H-1B Slot Crisis Frustrates Workers
The lack of slots for H-1B appointments in India have reached new peaks. Even a booked slot may be subjected to delays and reschedulings.
The situation has left many H-1B workers immensely frustrated, as revealed on a post on Reddit. One H-1B worker posted asking if others had decided to return to India for good due to the crisis.
The comments revealed that a large portion of users had chosen to give up and simply return home. Dozens of others said they plan to return from the US after repaying their student loans.
One users shared their predicament in the comments. The lack of slots have left them stranded in the US for over a year, unable to visit their family back home.
The users also complained that it seemed like the only way to get a slot now was through an agent. Agents charge exorbitant amounts of money for an early slot, as much as $4,000 per appointment.
Some suspect that agents have connections with embassy staff who inform them of availability. However, that is not true, as experts pointed out.
Agencies often just have the booking portal open and being refreshed 24/7. Their manpower and resources allow them to snatch away slots faster than regular applicants.
This dire situation of the H-1B visa has caused several people to abandon dream jobs in the US. They are forced to return to India, unable to continue working legally.
