An Indian family is met with a heartbreaking rejection when applying for B1/B2 visitor visas, highlighting the tough situations every visa applicant is facing these days.
A social media user shared his parents’ visa interview details from New Delhi. After weeks of struggling to find a slot, they finally booked through an agent; but their troubles were only beginning.
Sharing about their trip, his parents were going to visit his aunt’s housewarming in Georgia after 9 long years apart. But despite preparing every document, and planning a short 3-4 week stay, they were rejected in a matter of minutes.
No papers were checked. No real explanation. Just a quick 214(b) refusal and a brutal send-off from the visa officer.
The parents are retired, have strong ties to India, and own property. The aunt is settled in the US, married for 19 years, and her husband runs a business. Yet the visa officer didn’t bother to look at anything.
Further detailing their painful experience, he wrote, “My mom had printed photos of her and her sister, of the new house, she was so genuinely excited. Now she just keeps asking if they said something wrong. I can’t even explain it to her.”
Earlier, such cases had no trouble getting visas, but as the US rolls out strict curbs on immigration even harmless visits from senior citizens are seemingly a “security risk.” It is truly a distressing time for all the applicants.
