Despite paying off half their income in tax and having safety funds just enough for a flight back home, an NRI couple has revealed how they are living their best life.
Annamalai Ramanathan and Meena Palaniappan, an Indian couple living in Sweden, told the media they only have 50,000 Swedish Kronas (₹4 Lakh) which is around the same amount for a flight to India. They explained the top-notch social security system in the country has made saving unnecessary.
Even when taxes are as high as 50% they get enough benefits like covering for job loss, medical bills, and free education for their child. This is why they don’t mind paying such a hefty amount every month because they clearly see it is being utilized for the right purpose.
In contrast, many are burdened with high medical bills, unemployment, and educational costs in India. If Sweden’s model proves anything is that the middle class won’t mind paying heavy taxes if they see progress in the country.
In India, people are left to manage these risks on their own. As a result, many Indians are leaving for countries with more reliable systems.
