Indian-American Student Killed By Roommate

In a quiet place meant for learning, Sachin Hawkins, a 19-year-old from New York with dreams of helping kids as a special education teacher, met a tragic end at the University of Hull in England.

His life got tangled up when his roommate, Syed Hussain-Kazi, someone he thought was a friend, stabbed him. Sachin passed away in the hospital.

Sachin, described as a good guy, moved from New York to England in 2022 to study. The police caught Hussain-Kazi after he ran away from their place.

Sachin’s family is heartbroken, wondering why something like this happened between friends. His mom, who last talked to him a few days before, is left with the painful question, “Why Sachin?”

The University of Hull and Sachin’s school in New York both feel utterly heartbroken. Sachin’s family is trying to bring him back home for a farewell under Hindu traditions. They’ve set up a fundraiser to help.

In this sad time, the University of Hull and Sachin’s family are trying to support each other, but the pain of losing a young man with so much ahead is hard to bear.
