Oregon Truck Crash: Indian Driver Kills Newlyweds

An Indian truck driver has been charged after a fatal crash that killed a newlywed couple in Oregon during Thanksgiving week. Rajinder Kumar, who moved to the US illegally three years ago, was driving a semi truck on US Highway 20 in Deschutes County on November 24.

Crash kills newly married couple

His truck reportedly jackknifed on a dark section of the highway. William Micah Carter and his wife Jennifer Lynn Lower died after their vehicle collided with Rajinder’s truck. The couple had married only 16 days earlier, ending their life together in a tragic accident.

Immigration history sparks concern

Details about Rajinder’s past have added to the public anger. He entered the US illegally in 2022 through Arizona. He later obtained work papers and a commercial licence in California, raising serious questions for officials reviewing the case.

Criminal charges and immigration action

Oregon police have charged Rajinder with criminally negligent homicide. He is currently held in Deschutes County jail. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued a detention order against him and described him as a criminal illegal alien.

Previous incident adds to tension

This case comes months after another highway crash involving an illegal Indian truck driver in August. That earlier accident had already intensified criticism of H-2 visas. Rising anti India sentiment in the US has now led to new online calls for deportations.
