Indian Grocery Product Under FDA Radar in US

The US Food and Drug Administration is looking into cinnamon products that might have lead in them. This isn’t just about cinnamon applesauce – it’s about ground cinnamon too.

One brand that’s been affected is the desi brand, Swad, available at Patel Brothers, the famous grocery store for Indians in the US.

The FDA found high levels of lead in some ground cinnamon brands. Using these products for a long time could be harmful.

Over 460 people, mostly kids, got lead poisoning from cinnamon-flavored applesauce with cinnamon from Ecuador.

Recalls have been recommended for ground cinnamon from six distributors, including Swad from Patel Brothers. Consumers are urged to stop using affected products, such as La Fiesta, Marcum, MTCI, Supreme Tradition, and El Chillar, and dispose of them properly.
