The Presidential elections concluded last month which ended with Tharman Shanmugaratnam of Indian-origin being elected as the President. He took charge of the office on 14 September after winning 70.41% votes.
Singapore has a law that prohibits any sort of political campaigning during the cooling-off period of an election. This period for the presidential election was from the midnight of 31 August to 8 PM of 1 September (the day of the election).
Ravi Madasamy, the lawyer, and Iris Koh(Chinese origin) had to face the charges after The Elections Department of Singapore (ELD) filed a police report against them.
They had published political ads multiple times during the prohibited period and after several warnings which eventually led to the reports against them. Investigation by police is due in the matter.
Prior to this event, the duo had charges against them. Ravi had slapped a man near subway, while Koh had conspired with a doctor to lie about people being vaccinated.
