In a wonderful turn of events, an Indian origin teenager Yuvan Thakkar has got the blissful opportunity of becoming the first child in the UK to undergo a CAR T, (also known as tisagenlecelucel) therapy.
The sixteen year old expressed his delight by saying that his life has changed by a landslide since I he received the CAR T therapy,’ said. He went further to and thanked the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) for the incredible care and attention they paid to him, helping him through such tough times.
Yuvan Thakkar recollected on his journey and reminisced about how he had to take so numerous trips to hospital, having long periods out of school and concluded by saying that the London situated hospital has surely helped in recovering him to a state where he is able to enjoy things he loved doing once again, such as playing snooker, pool, meeting friends and even going on wonderful holidays.
Yuvan was first diagnosed with leukemia at the tender age of six and underwent treatment that modifies immune cells in order to target the cancerous onces. However, his cancer endee up relapsing despite prior chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. What made matters reach an all time emotional high was Thakkar’s mother terming the treatment as a “second chance” at life, and expressing gratitude for the medical teams and the NHS.
