Viral Video: NRI Dreams Shattered, Immigration Scam

The viral video by an Indian woman in Canada has sparked a much-needed reality check about the country’s job market, especially for newcomers.

For decades, Canada has been painted as a land of endless opportunities, where jobs and prosperity await any immigrant willing to make the leap.

Yet, the footage of hundreds queuing for a mere handful of internship positions lays bare a harsher truth: the Canadian dream is not guaranteed.

The desperation seen in that queue is not an isolated incident—it’s emblematic of a systemic problem.

Canada’s recent immigrants are grappling with the highest unemployment rates in a decade, with the rate for newcomers at a staggering 12.6% in June 2024, far higher than the national average.

Indians, who form the largest group of recent permanent residents, are among the worst affected.

The influx of immigrants has outpaced job creation, leading to fierce competition not just for “dream jobs” but for basic survival roles.

What’s even more troubling is the persistent myth—peddled by influencers and migration agents—that life abroad is easy if you’re simply “willing to work hard.”

The reality is that skill mismatch, lack of local experience, and economic headwinds mean that even highly qualified newcomers often find themselves struggling for entry-level positions.

Yes, some argue that “with the right skills, you can still make it,” but this is cold comfort for the many who arrive with hope, only to find themselves at the back of a very long line.

It’s time to move past the glossy Instagram narratives. Prospective immigrants deserve honesty: Canada offers opportunities, but also daunting challenges.

Blind optimism is no substitute for preparation, resilience, and a clear-eyed view of the risks.

If you’re not ready for the struggle, perhaps, as the video bluntly suggests, “India is better”
