Eight Indian sailors, who had a miserable time on a vessel that rammed a bridge in the US, are free now and on their way back home after three months. In March, the cargo ship, MV Dali, had its power supply cut off and rammed the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore rendering the crew helpless.
The sailors, however, were in dire straits, having scarce resources and no way to be saved in sight. They had no option other than to undergo the agony of the accident that led to the death of six construction workers. But they did not lose their spirit and kept on hoping despite the many hardships that they had undergone.
The Indian government and maritime authorities did not leave the men without support, doing everything they could to free them. Last but not the least, after several months of discussions and bargaining, the sailors were released from the vessel and were boarded on a flight to India. People greeted them with tears of happiness because everyone was waiting for their loved ones to come back home.
The above case shows the dangers and difficulties that sailors experience and the need for an immediate response in such circumstances. The return of the Indian sailors is proof of the authorities’ work and the unbreakable spirit of people in distress.
