In New York, an Indian man named Bobby Chawla, whose family bought a house at an auction, faced a shocking twist.
Two people, Barry and Barbara Pollack, who hadn’t paid their mortgage for more than ten years, refused to leave the property. They even made offensive comments, telling Bobby Chawla’s family to go back to Pakistan assuming they are from Pakistan.
The Pollacks bought the house in 1990 but ran into money problems by 2006, stopping their mortgage payments. To avoid losing their home, they filed repeated bankruptcies in different courts, delaying their eviction for 17 years.
The house was finally auctioned after an 11-year legal battle. A judge stopped them from filing more bankruptcies to extend their stay. The New York Post exposed their misuse of the court system, leading the Pollacks to finally leave.
Bobby Chawla expressed relief but can’t take over the house officially yet. His lawyer, Heath Berger, pointed out that the Pollacks’ actions in bankruptcy court were unusual and hoped this would be the end of their legal tricks.
