Later, the Indian Foreign Ministry confirmed that around 250 Indians were present in Niger at that time, but they are safe and accounted for as of now.
The MEA spokesperson later reported, ‘We are closely monitoring developments there and are in touch with our mission. There are about 250 Indians there, and they are all safe. The borders are open, and France was evacuating people. Some Indians left on the same flight, around 10-15, and some businessmen on temporary visas have also departed.’
Throughout the evacuation mission, the Indian Government was in touch and monitored every bit of development in the region.
France, on the other hand, did a phenomenal job evacuating around 1000 people. They not only focused on French citizens but also nationals from Europe, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, who were also part of their mission.
Emmanuel Macron expressed gratitude towards the French Embassy in Niamey, along with the soldiers who were part of this mission. Later, he tweeted, ‘France evacuated more than a thousand French people, Europeans, and nationals from Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, who wanted to leave Niger.’
Niger has lately been facing widespread protests, which made the situation tougher for global citizens. This escalated the decision taken by the French Embassy, and they organized the precise mission to rescue people stuck in the West African country.
