For years, Bengaluru residents were forced to travel to distant cities like Chennai and Hyderabad for basic services regarding US visas. The IT capital will finally get some relief as a new consulate is announced by the government.
Tejaswi Surya, Bengaluru South MP, gave the details on X about the new US consulate in Namma Ooru, which will be established in January. He showed gratitude to PM Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and the US Embassy for this joint effort.
This follows the news of the US also considering opening up a new visa application center in Andhra Pradesh. People from these regions have shown a growing interest in moving to the US making these changes a welcome response to the demands.
The move has been long overdue for Bengaluru, which generates over 40% of India’s IT revenue. The US Ambassador, Eric Garcetti, even called the lack of a consulate in the city “a glaring oversight.”
India’s tech hub will continue to bridge the gap between the US and India, strengthening the relationship between the countries. While it has come much later than it should have, it is a positive step forward.
