In a recent appearance on a podcast, U.S. Vice President and Democratic Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris expressed her gratitude towards her Indian-origin mother Shyamala Gopalan, highlighting the pivotal role her mother played in shaping her and her sister’s lives.
Kamala said that her mother always taught the sisters to freely express their emotions while taking control of their own narratives. In Kamala’s own words, “It wasn’t just about venting, but understanding where you are in a moment and centering yourself.”
Kamala recalled how whenever they would face a problem, their mother would ask, “What did you do?”, thus making the sisters reflect on their actions and learn from the mistakes so that they never get repeated in the future.
In the interview, Kamala was also very vocal against Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who had earlier criticized Kamala not for her policies, but for not having any biological children of her own, saying that women who have biological children tend to be more ‘humble’.
The Vice President immediately dismissed the remarks, calling them outdated, and questioning the governor for thinking along such derogatory lines.
Kamala Harris defended herself by saying that she deeply loved her stepchildren Cole and Ella, emphasizing that their being her stepchildren does not affect her deep affection for them.
She further went on to criticize J.D. Vance for his derogatory comments, calling out to women to reject harmful stereotypes and take control of their lives.
