Malayali Killed Brutally By Son In New Jersey

Melvin Thomas, a 32-year-old Indian American man, has been arrested for the death of his 61-year-old father, Manuel V. Thomas, in their Paramus, New Jersey, home.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office charged Melvin with first-degree murder and related offenses. Melvin, who is unemployed, called the police about the incident.

The Thomases, immigrants from Kerala, India, experienced the tragedy on February 16, 2024.

Paramus Police found Manuel’s body with multiple stab wounds in their basement. Melvin was swiftly arrested and is held in Bergen County Jail awaiting court.

Manuel, an insurance professional whose wife passed away in 2021, was allegedly killed on February 14, remaining undiscovered for two days.

Melvin faces charges including first-degree murder, desecration of human remains, hindering, and illegal possession of a weapon.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit and Paramus Police are investigating the case, with more details expected later.
