Mass Cancellations: US Busts Indian Visa Scam

Booking a US visa appointment in India is already a nightmare and bots stealing slots from genuine applicants has only made it worse.

Now, the authorities have finally stepped in. The US Embassy in India has canceled 2,000 visa appointments after catching fraudsters hijacking the system.

The embassy announced that these “bad actors” used bots to manipulate bookings and violate scheduling policies. Their accounts are now suspended.

This is a step in the right direction. Cracking down on fraud will limit the exploitation of applicants.

But let’s not pretend the system is fixed. The real issue remains where thousands of Indians face endless delays and wait times stretching over years.

With more Indian applicants flooding the system every year, 2,000 cancellations barely make a dent.

Netizens are elated with this move, but they also want to know if these freed-up slots will be made available to others. The embassy, though, hasn’t given a clear answer yet.

The US continues to battle widespread visa fraud in India, including fake H-1B registrations. But Without real fixes and revamps, Indian applicants will continue to struggle with a broken system.
