Indian Doctor Wins $30 Million in US

An Indian-origin doctor in the US has just won a major legal battle and a $30 million payout after being falsely accused on national TV.

Dr. Mahendra Amin, a Georgia-based gynecologist, was the victim of undeserved criticism in 2020 when MSNBC ran a sensational report calling him the “uterus collector.” The media house claimed he performed unauthorized hysterectomies on immigrant women held in US custody.

However, court records later showed the truth that only two procedures were performed— both with official ICE approval and signed consent from the patients. Yet NBC made this derogatory claim of “mass hysterectomies,” painting Dr. Amin as a villain.

The defamation trial was set to begin on April 22, but reportedly NBC quietly settled the case in February for a whopping $30 million.

Rachel Maddow, an MSNBC host, especially crossed the line in her coverage. She tied the case to Trump’s immigration policies, including Amin in the child separation and other horrifying incidents, all without proof.

“It was reckless and disgusting,” said Amin’s lawyer, Stacey Evans. “They destroyed his reputation just to push a political narrative.” The lawyer pointed out that he is an Indian immigrant himself and was wrongly painted as a monster.

After years of damage, Amin’s name is finally cleared and NBC has paid their dues for the pain they have caused to the Indian-origin doctor.
