New York’s Deadly Footpath Can Remind India

New York is one of the oldest metropolises in the USA. The centuries old city packs a number of secrets underneath which makes people curious. But what a woman found walking on the sidewalk wasn’t anything she expected but rather something really dangerous. Instead of a Mole City or an underground network she found a huge sinkhole sitting right under a busy sidewalk. This hole is huge enough to sink a number of people inside.

This isn’t what you expect when we talk about world class cities like New York. It has been a common feature in India where after the monsoon season a number of sinkholes surface across the cities highlighting poor construction work. New York takes pride in its infrastructure and this comes as a big blow to it. The crumbling sidewalk poses a huge threat to pedestrians.

Underneath the streets and the sidewalks run a huge network of storm drains that keeps the city safe from water logging. But these can sometimes affect the foundation of the pavements if not checked and repaired regularly. The authorities have not spoken on the matter yet and some people on the X are saying that the sidewalk is the responsibility of the building owner.
