Pic Talk: Empty Desi Store in US – Rice Ban Effect

The ban on non-basmati rice exports from India caused panic across U.S. states. Telugu folks rushed to desi grocery stores, buying Sona Masuri rice in large quantities. The stores took advantage of the situation, charging double the prices.

This picture shows the entire rice shelf swept clean after Telugu folks visited the store. This scenario is similar in every Desi grocery store in the USA right now.

Most Telugu folks managed to stock up for the next few months, and there should be no worry as the ban is temporary.

However, if the ban gets extended significantly, there are other options like Basmati rice and other non-Indian Mexican rice brands available in wholesale stores like Costco.
