Police have been accused of “brutality” by students, and the college and local police have come under fire from the Council on American-Islamic Relations for employing “excessive force.” There have been at least 28 arrests on campus, which emphasises the continued hostilities between the institution and Israel-Hamas.
Demonstrators at Emory University are calling for the closure of Cop City, a proposed police training facility in the South River Forest close to Atlanta, and a divestment from “Israeli apartheid”. Students are calling on colleges to cut off their ties to Israeli firms in response to the Hamas strikes on October 7, which have resulted in a war effort that has killed 34,000 Palestinians.
