We’ve all heard success stories of Indians studying abroad and landing a high-paying job or launching their dream startup. However, it is not always as smooth sailing as it sounds and an Indian-origin founder learned it the hard way.
Dev Mitra, an Indian-origin entrepreneur in Canada, recently made an appearance on a podcast and revealed the struggles Indians face abroad. Falling from a 14 LPA corporate job to serving tables as a waiter to make ends meet as a student, he shared his own experiences on his way to founding Matrix Venture Studio.
Mitra also shared the racism Indian students face in the West making their life more grueling. Hence, it is not just a financial struggle but also an emotional one for Indian immigrants that they bear on a daily basis.
As the clip of the podcast was shared online, the Indian entrepreneur faced some undeserved backlash. His struggle story was seen as him being dismissive about his role as a waiter.
While it is true that every job deserves respect, it is a harsh reality that no one would take such a fall from grace from a 14 LPA package. His story is just a reminder for anyone thinking of studying abroad to be aware of the pros and cons of the glittery life that we all hear about.
