SEVIS Crackdown Continues: UCSD F1 Visas Revoked

As the US government’s attack on immigrants continues, the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) has reported F-1 visa terminations for at least 35 international students, with one already deported. As the real number is expected to be even higher, tensions are rising with no explanations from the government.

And it’s not just UCSD; San Diego State University and other campuses across the US are witnessing a major crackdown against international students. University officials reported the figures based on changes in status in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), a federal database that tracks all immigrant students.

The Trump administration has been issuing these terminations over minor charges or old arrests—some going back decades. In most cases, the student has either served their sentence or been acquitted, yet these records are now being used to launch a brutal crackdown on the F-1 visa holders.

UCSD has nearly 7,200 international students, with hundreds likely to be Indians, now at risk of deportation. Many are in STEM fields and pay more than $40,000 a year in tuition—almost double what local residents pay.

These students are not a national threat. They’re not living here illegally. In fact, they have a massive contribution to the US economy.
