An Indian American Doctor is arrested on the account of molesting a patient in Queens, New York which seems to be a pattern as he was released in a similar case last year.
Dr. Amir Sitafalwala, a 72-year-old Indian-origin doctor, works at ModernMD Urgent Care in New York where the alleged abuse took place. The victim was a 21-year-old male patient who reported the inappropriate behavior.
Sitafalwala was first arrested in March 2023 for similar charges but was later released without bail. Evidently, he never learned from the incident as he is now met with another sexual abuse charge against him.
The victim alleges that Sitafalwala touched his private parts and complimented them inappropriately during an appointment for a COVID-19 test. The doctor also tried to grab his face and forcibly kiss him, according to Daily News.
The accused was released after he paid $10,000 bail in the new case. After the first incident, he continued working at the same urgent care center where the second offense also took place, which raised some flags for the medical facility.
This incident is depressing for Indian-American doctors who stand in solidarity with the medical fraternity trying to fight sexual abuse in India. Amidst such a climate, repeated incidents like this just churn your stomach.
