Shot At Entering Wrong Home In USA

Imagine losing your life just because you entered the wrong house. This is exactly what happened with a 20 year old University student in South Carolina, when he accidentally stepped into someone else’s house at 2 am in the morning. The resident of the house shot dead the young guy in what they call as an act of self defense.

Nick Anthony Donofrio was a student at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. He had recently moved into a new residence outside the university campus. The most shocking thing about the tragic event is that the police have justified the action of the house owner and no charges have been pressed against them so far.

South Carolina has the ‘Castle Doctrine Law’ which allows people to act in self defense against “intruders and attackers without fear of prosecution or civil action for acting in defence of themselves and others.” The law is fairly controversial and has been the matter of debate on numerous occasions.

The police have justified that the actions of the house owner were in line with the law and all the evidence collected suggests the same. The incident has highlighted the urgent need to revise laws in the state and how innocents are barred from receiving justice under the current legislations.
